Dedicate Your Time to Prayer
The most valuable commodity that we have with us right now is our time. It is an asset that if used wisely can benefit you greatly in your life and in your life to come. However if time is wasted then there is no turning back and you have wasted a piece of valuable treasure
forever. Our beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) emphasized on the importance of the proper use of time and said
“Take advantage of five, before five! Youth before old age. Good health before sickness. Free time before occupation. Wealth before poverty. And life before death” (Al-Hakim).
I was a part of a discussion in which we were talking about what to do with the pare time. One of my colleagues said that he has started going on walks in order to enhance his physical appearance. He further pointed out that the walk itself is not a wholly time consuming activity and he has a lot of time while walking so he prays to god during walking to make efficient use of our time. The astonishing thing is that he was not a Muslim. The point to ponder is that if a non-Muslim can make the best use of his time by praying then why can we as Muslims not do it in spite of the fact that we have been instructed to do so by our Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).
Most of us complain about our busy schedule and how we do not have a free moment in our entire day. The truth however is that almost all of us have a lot of time in the day when we are sitting idle and have nothing to do at all. This is the result of improper time management. We have the great opportunity to pray to Allah for forgiveness and mercy. Not only will we have received countless blessings for praying but Allah will put barakah in your time. This will help you use your time efficiently and get more done out of the same time that you previously had.
It is however not only important that we remain busy in order to make effective use of time. The value of the time that is spent depends on the quality of the deeds that were done during that time. In order to make the time count we should do good deeds. The fundamental question that we should be asking you is what good I have done for others during the day. This will help you not only in this life but will also help in your next life and at the Day of Judgment. The time that is sent doing well is the same as the time that is spent in heaven with Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). We should teach the lessons that were taught to us by Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). The remembrance of god puts times to proper use and brings us closer to our beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) as well as to Allah.
